In this fast-paced environment we live in day in and day out, it’s easy to forget about the little things we can do to make our world a better, happier place. See how you can create happiness by applying any of these ten ideas into your everyday lifestyle.
A little love goes a long way and it can be something as simple as holding open a door for someone. The key is to be kind and sincere. Not only will you make the receiving person feel good, you’ll feel great about yourself.
This is your neighborhood, your city, your world – take care of it. It’s not hard to find a trashcan instead of throwing trash on the floor. See something on the floor that’s not supposed to be there? Pick it up. Make our planet a healthier, cleaner place to live in.
Participate in whatever you find most rewarding – time with children, special needs cases, soup kitchens, visiting the elderly – all of these groups need support, and more importantly, a friend.
Check your closets for clothing you no longer wear or items you (or your children!) have outgrown. Instead of tossing it in a bag and throwing it away, bring it over to a GoodWill store or homeless shelter. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
You may be able save someone’s life just by donating blood; it’s a simple act if kindness on your end that has a big impact to someone else. Imagine the impact that has on one person, their family and friends. You may never know exactly where your donation went, but you can smile knowing you’ve done a good deed.
Sharing your time with those who matter most to you is mutually fulfilling. In our busy, hectic lives, keeping in touch with friends and family near and far can be a challenge. Whether it’s calling a relative during your morning commute or reading books with your children at night…make time for those to matter most to you.
The opportunity to share can be in small or large ways... be creative! Have an extra coupon? Give it to the person in the line behind you, or maybe use it, and give the second part of your purchase to someone who may need a little help. At the drive-thru getting your morning coffee? Buy one for the car behind you. You’ll surely make someone’s day.
Many organizations give back. Your purchasing power can help make a difference. If you’re able to spend money on something you need and help someone else at the same time, it’s a win-win! Take the time to find companies who give back; it’s an easy way to make a difference just by buying your everyday household items.
Avoid long showers. Don’t let the water run when washing your hands or brushing your teeth. Make sure your sprinklers are on a reasonable amount of times throughout the day. If everyone where to make little changes like this, it would make a big difference.
A smile is contagious. Something as simple as a smile can turn someone’s entire day around. It’s free and only requires work from one facial muscle – it doesn’t get any easier than that!
If you’ve read through this list, there’s no doubt that you are capable of performing at least 6 of these ideas, some maybe within a single day! Yes, some of these items may require a little more work or time than others – but think about how great you’ll feel about yourself once you’re done. Moreover, think about how much better of a place this world will be because of YOU!
