We all have those days when we wake up feeling “plain Jane.” While you may have trouble picking out what to wear or adding some volume to your hair, you’ll be smooth sailing when it comes to dolling up your face! We’ve compiled a list of makeup tips to help you boost one of the most captivating facial features: the eyes.
1. Add eyeliner on top of your eyelid.
Most of us will apply eyeliner to the bottom portions of our eyes, but a solid line on top can add depth and definition and enlarge your eyes. Doing this gives you the “cat eye” effect. The key to mastering this tip is keeping the line as close to your lashes as possible, starting it thin on the inner corner of your eye, and progressing to a slightly thicker, wider line as you reach the outer corner.
2. Do your prep work.
If you don’t already have a primer, it’s time to get one. An eye-prepping cream makes a world of difference when applying eyeshadow. Dabbing a bit of it on your eyelid will help make your eyeshadow look smooth, avoid creasing, and last the entire day/night – trust me on this one.
3. Try an eyelash curler.
This funky contraption looks almost scary to put near your eye and squeeze your eyelashes, but I promise it’s painless and so worth the investment! It will make your eyelashes curl upward, enhancing your eyes' size and allowing you to gift a jaw-dropping wink. ;)
4. Use eyeshadow colors that make your eye color pop!
Believe it or not, using specific eyeshadow colors will draw attention to your eyes. This isn’t a tip for people with only exotic-looking eye colors, as you may think – some eyeshadows work for all eye colors. Check it out:
Problem solved.
5. Always, always slap on some mascara.
Even if you don’t want to wear an ounce of makeup for the day, make the extra effort to put on your mascara before walking out the door. Defining your eyelashes is the simplest way to enhance all the characteristics of your eyes and still keep them looking bright and beautiful effortlessly.
6. Concealer is your friend.
Let’s face it: we all wake up with bags under our eyes after long days/nights of work and other activities—so do something about it! Concealer is the easiest way to take care of this issue. Apply it under your eyes to clear any bags, shadows, and/or wrinkles you may naturally have. Oh, it acts as a “foundation,” so feel free to cover that little pimple on your forehead or those stray brow hairs with it, too!
7. Focus on the inner corners.
Have you ever tried applying a little shimmer or white/light eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eyes? Not only do the eyeshadows look spectacular, your eyes will look brighter! Remember when your mom told you, “It’s what’s inside that counts?” Well, she was right.
8. Don’t forget your brows!
Your eyebrows can literally ‘make or break’ your face. Don’t ignore them. Keep them trim and clean by plucking stray hairs whenever you see them growing in. I understand we don’t always have the time to analyze and fix our brows, so in that case, refer to tip #6 as an alternative!
Whether you try one or all of the tips mentioned, we’re confident you’ll see a change in your everyday look. You’ll be amazed that something so simple (like applying mascara) can make such a big difference in your appearance. So get up, doll yourself up, and let your eyes do the talking!
