You look in the mirror and something catches your eye -- could it be?
No, it couldn't possibly ... but it happened; you chipped your tooth!
You don't know when, you don't know how and you certainly don't know what to do next. However, have no fear! There's bonding and reshaping to help you with that.
Bonding is the process of helping to reshape your teeth. It involves applying a putty-like resin that hardens and sticks to your teeth. The resin is colored to match your teeth or in some cases improve your tooth color. There are a couple of steps to go through for this procedure:
Before:
The dentist will use a tool to roughen the tooth and make sure the resin adheres to the area. They may also paint the tooth with a conditioning liquid, which also helps the resin stick. Be aware that there may be sensitivity to this procedure, so the dentist may numb the tooth area.
During:
The bonding process takes about 30 minutes to an hour for each tooth. If you are having an extensive amount of treatment done, additional appointments will need to be scheduled.
After:
Your teeth may feel strange after your appointment, however it's totally normal! It takes time to get used to the resin material and it will begin to feel natural as time goes on.
Please be conscious of your habits during this time. Avoid biting your nails, chewing on hard foods, smoking and drinking coffee or red wine. If you're not careful, the resin material may chip or stain!
Now, focusing on your oral health shouldn’t just be a priority after a procedure.
