10 Things to Fall in Love With This Season

We almost always associate this month with one specific emotion: love. Between the roses, chocolates and cupid statues invading our local pharmacies and grocery markets, we just can’t seem to escape the overwhelming sense of amour around us. Some of us anxiously await Valentine’s Day for signs of admiration from our loved one or a secret admirer, and others find the day to be overrated and a waste of money. Fortunately, whether you celebrate the day or not, there are plenty of things for you to “fall in love with” this season – most of which won’t even cost you a penny!

1. Sunlight

Most of us have indoor jobs and don’t really get to appreciate the perfection of a beautiful, sunny day. For those of us that do – lucky you! But as we rush to get into the office, we tend to not take the time to realize how good it is to see a sunrise or feel the warmth of the sunrays on our face. Unless it rains – then we notice the missing sun. Fall in love with these bright, sunny days.

2. A Good Meal

Whatever your favorite dish might be, appreciate it a little more this season. Maybe share it with a friend or loved one. Make it a memorable experience – it’ll be that much tastier.

3. Your Job

It’s hard to actually “love” your job since you’d probably like to be spending your time some other way, but think of it this way – you are employed, and are fortunate. Whether you love the actual tasks you do on a daily basis or not, make it your mission to find something about your job that you like – whether it be your coworkers or a particular activity your company participates in.

4. Family

Whether they’re blood or not, these people have been by your side at your best and at your worst. Value them, cherish them, love them.

5. Hope

It’s what keeps us working for a better tomorrow and what we clench onto when all else fails. We are fortunate to be able to have positive outlooks on our lives and strive for happier lives, so keep on dreaming, keep on hoping.

6. A Funny Joke

There’s nothing like having a good laugh. Hearing or telling a funny joke could make your day much more upbeat and lively. So, if you happen to be around some of your comical friends, share a few, or if you have a joke worth sharing, do it! You could make someone else’s day a lot brighter.

7. Kindness

Who doesn’t like to be greeted with a warm “good morning” at the start of the day, or given a “thank you” after holding the elevator for the person behind them? Being considerate isn’t just manners – it’s an energy that rubs off on others. It’s free, it’s good stuff – sprinkle it everywhere.

8. Exercising

Whether you like working out or not, all of us can and should exercise on some level. It may be a 10 mile bike ride, walk around the block, or a few pushups before bedtime – whatever fitness level works for you and your schedule, take advantage of it. It’s free, and when it’s over leaves you feeling great.

9. Diversity

How boring would it be if we were all one in the same? It’s a great thing to step out into the world and find people of all ethnicities, races and heritages around us. It brings so much knowledge and excitement into our lives. Learn to love things and people that are different than what you are accustomed to – it makes life so much more fun.

10. The Warmth of a Smile

There’s no such thing as an “ugly smile.” Your smile is a sign of happiness. Happiness is an energy that people feed off of – and it doesn’t take much more than a smile to get it started. Did you know that sharing a smile could change someone’s entire mood for the day into one of positivity and joy? It’s incredible that something so simple, and nearly effortless, could be so impactful. Fall in love with your smile, and show it off as much as you can.

Happy Valentine's Day, from all of us here at Solstice.
