8 Creative [and Cool] Ways to Use Dental Floss

Most of us own a box and use it every day to clean our teeth. But, have you ever considered performing day-to-day task or chores with it? Dental floss is a sturdy, flexible, low cost material that we’ve found can be used for an assortment of things, beyond dental hygiene. Take a look, you’ll be surprised to see what dental floss can do!

1. Cut the cheese.

No, seriously! You know what kind of cheese we’re talking about. This may be the most popular alternate use for dental floss. Slicing a large block of cheese or a cake can get messy no matter how sharp or fancy the knife you’re using. Try a long piece of floss for straight, precise cuts.

2. Make a clothesline.

We all have those clothing pieces we can’t throw in the dryer unless we want to look like we went digging through a toddler’s wardrobe. So instead, string a piece dental floss across two walls in your home, maybe your bathroom so guests won’t see, and leave your clothes to dry – the old fashion way.

3. Bring out your inner Betty Crocker.

If you like baking, you’ve definitely run into a problem lifting cookies off your baking tray without them falling apart. Next time, run a piece of floss under the cookies to make sure they don’t crumble.

4. Shoelace snapped? No problem…

In those rare, but inevitable occasions where a shoelace breaks, floss can save the day. It’ll keep your shoe strapped to your foot – at least till you have a quick minute to replace it with the proper material.

5. Hang pictures and paintings.

Dental floss can be used as an alternative to regular string or wire if you don’t have access to any at the moment. As long as the frame isn’t too heavy, the floss will work like a charm!

6. Repair and wear your jewelry!

Ladies, we’ve all had those (mildly) embarrassing moments where we accidentally snapped our bracelets and a hundred little beads flood the floor. Well, if you’re able to collect most of your missing pieces, use floss to string them back together! Gentlemen, if you witness such an occurrence, help a sister out!

7. Take tight rings off.

How many times have you put on a ring and hours later can’t get it off? Often times our fingers swell up throughout the course of the day. If you tie some dental floss tightly around your finger above the ring, you should be able to slip it off with ease. Try it out!

8. Start using it to sew.

Bet you’ve never thought of this use for floss – but if you’re in a quick need of needle and thread, you may want to give this a go. Floss is a sturdier material than thread, and therefore can really hold things in place. Try it the next time you want to sew a button on or have to patch up a bag or other accessory.

Pretty neat, huh? These are just a few of our own ideas we’ve shared – and there’s surely plenty more! next time you leave the house, grab a travel pack of floss to keep with you from now on. Who would of thought floss could be so useful?! Have other creative ideas for using dental floss? Post a comment below, we want to know!
